The Monday Mindset
“There are no moral shortcuts in the game of business—or life. There are, basically, three kinds of people: the unsuccessful, the temporarily successful, and those who become and remain successful. The difference is character.” – Stephen M. R. Covey, The Speed of Trust
Would you say that character plays a factor in success? Would you categorize the three kinds of people the way that Stephen does? Discuss your thoughts with the team.

Customer Connection: Open-ended Questions
Team, remember, listening is learning!
As you begin today’s huddle, have each team member grab a piece of paper and a pencil. Take 2 minutes to write down a list of open-ended questions that you could ask a customer in order to learn more about their situation. Example: “What’s the biggest challenge you’re currently facing with your healthcare needs?”
Once everyone is finished, each member will share one question with the team. Throughout the day, ask open-ended questions to your customers. Even if you are not customer-facing, think about who you serve day to day, and apply the challenge that way!
Multipliers
How well do you know your team? Can you list some of their strengths? Today, we’re going to do an activity to identify everyone’s “Native Genius.” This idea comes from Liz Wiseman’s book Multipliers, and it’s quick and easy to do. At the end of your activity, you’ll be able to leverage each other’s strengths on your team. Plus, you’ll feel pretty great after hearing the good things your team has to say about you.
If you’re leading this huddle, click here for some directions, and click here for an example. Bonus: Email your Native Genius nicknames to HR. When HR did this exercise, the genius names we ended up with were:
- Scott – The Pilot
- Bob – The Counselor
- Jacob – The Engineer
- Janae – The Conductor.
Benefit Feature: Teladoc
Did you know that if you’re enrolled in the company’s insurance, you have access to Teladoc? Teladoc saves you time and money. Instead of going to the ER or urgent care, you can use an app to speak with a doctor no matter where you are. If you’re enrolled in benefits, this feature is at no cost to you.
To get started, click the image under “Resources” to view our Teledoc flyer, or reach out to HR with any questions.
Bereavement Policy
The Company recognizes that a death in the immediate family (spouse, parents, siblings, and children) of an employee may cause grief and can create additional problems requiring time off.
In the event of a death in your immediate family, you may receive a maximum of three days bereavement leave per occurrence with pay. This time off is granted at the discretion of management based on your individual situation. It is not charged against your accrued paid time off (PTO).
The immediate family means relatives of the employee or spouse including in-law, step-relatives, or equivalent relationship as follows:
- Spouse
- Parents
- Siblings
- Children
- All levels of grandparents
- All levels of grandchild
We understand that dealing with the loss of a loved one can be challenging emotionally and logistically. Please do not hesitate to reach out to HR or your manager with questions.
