Department Training: Purchasing
The Importance of Good Inventory Control
Our retail inventory is the largest financial asset of the company, and its proper storage, protection, and control are essential for meeting customer satisfaction.
We use the “TIMS” system, developed by Computers Unlimited, to manage our inventory for home medical equipment. TIMS helps us meet customer and business needs by providing accurate and timely information. Without it, performing key company functions would be very difficult.
Accurate inventory is critical for the TIMS system to work. TIMS helps ensure our retail stores maintain adequate stock and calculates purchasing replenishment signals. Without good accuracy, we risk stockouts, which are costly to the company and can result in losing customers.
Let’s all focus on improving inventory control to better serve our customers.
- Receive items on time and verify accuracy; double-check everything.
- Check for shipping damage and report issues to Purchasing immediately.
- Store materials in an organized, clean space with clear labels.
- Complete all TIMS transactions accurately and on time.
- Perform scheduled cycle counts per company procedures. No shortcuts!
- Communicate and resolve inventory issues promptly.
Let’s all prioritize the control and protection of our most valuable financial asset – Inventory

Throwback Thursday: Expanding to Serve Colorado!
Today, we’re throwing it back to a pivotal moment in our company’s history: February 2022, when You Can Home Medical proudly acquired Independently Yours Medical Supply. This acquisition was a significant step forward, as it allowed us to grow our presence in Colorado from 1 store to 4 locations, helping us expand our ability to serve even more individuals and families.

Fun Friday: Pirate Ship Team
Step 1: Introduction to the Pirate Ship
- Gather your team and open the image of a pirate ship.
- Look over the different roles represented in the image (e.g., Captain, Lookout, Deckhand, Navigator.)
Step 2: Team Reflection
- Have everyone take a moment to think about which character on the ship best represents them in relation to the team.
- Consider: “Which role feels closest to how you see yourself contributing to the team right now?”
Step 3: Team Discussion
- Share which role you chose and why.
- Examples:
- “I’m the Navigator because I feel like I’m always helping the team find the best direction forward.”
- “I’m the Deckhand because I’m focused on supporting others and getting things done.”
Great job, mateys! Have a great weekend!
